How WoW: Forever rulesets work (no realms)
WoW: Forever has no realms to pick. Here is how it works, based on the details published so far (checked 6 October 2026).
Four rulesets instead of realms
You choose a ruleset when you create a character: Normal (consensual PvP), PvP (open world PvP), Roleplaying and Hardcore (permadeath, which launches later). Players on the same ruleset can group and enter dungeons and raids together. Alliance and Horde stay separate, so you cannot group across factions.
Names
Characters have two-part names that are unique across the whole region, instead of per-server names.
The Legacy system
Legacy is an account-wide progression system. Levelling characters and reaching profession milestones earns Legacy Points that are shared across the characters on your standard rulesets, and you spend them on trees such as Adventure, Professions and Resourcefulness. One guide reports a cap of 65 points collected, with 16 usable on any one character. We have only seen that figure in one source, so treat it as unconfirmed.
What we could not confirm
- The exact launch date of Hardcore. Trackers point to winter 2026, but Blizzard's exact date is not something we have confirmed.
- Whether character transfers from Classic Era realms will be allowed. We found no announcement.
